What Are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are sort of like press-on nails, but for your teeth. The process for applying them is even similar! Of course, dental veneers are made to last. Crafted from quality porcelain, they’ll conceal the flaws on the front-facing surface of your teeth for years to come. All onlookers will see is the life-like façade of your customized cosmetics – giving you the freedom to smile without worries!

The Process of Getting Veneers

First, we’ll help you schedule a consultation with Dr. Fitzgerald. She’ll perform an oral exam and work with you closely to get a good idea of what your treatment needs and goals are. After confirming the details of your plan, she’ll remove a tiny sliver of enamel from the surface of each tooth to be treated. Similar to buffing your nails before using press-ons, this part of the process helps ensure the veneers adhere well to your teeth and won’t look unnaturally bulky or thick.

It will take about one or two weeks for our partners at the dental lab to finish customizing your permanent veneers. But don’t worry; we’ll provide you with a temporary set that will protect your pearly whites while you wait. As soon as we receive the customized version of your cosmetics, we’ll have you return to our office so we can apply the adhesive and place your veneers!

Veneers FAQs

What Happens to the Teeth Under Veneers?

Veneers don’t damage the teeth underneath as long as they’re properly prepared and cared for. To place veneers, your cosmetic dentist in Castle Rock removes a very small amount of enamel—just enough to ensure the veneer fits securely and looks natural.

Once bonded, the veneer protects the underlying tooth from staining and everyday wear. However, the tooth is still vulnerable to decay if it isn’t cleaned properly. That’s why brushing, flossing, and regular checkups are necessary to keep both your veneers and your natural teeth healthy and bright over time.

Will I Still Be Able to Drink Coffee with Veneers?

Yes! One of the major benefits of porcelain veneers is their resistance to staining. This means you can still enjoy coffee, tea, wine, and other dark beverages without worrying about discoloration the way you would with natural enamel.

That said, veneers aren’t completely stain-proof. Drinking large amounts of highly pigmented beverages may cause gradual dulling over the course of many years. Using a straw, rinsing with water after drinking, and keeping up with your regular checkups and cleanings with our team can help your veneers stay bright for as long as possible.

Can Veneers Be Used for Bite Corrections?

Veneers are designed as a cosmetic treatment, covering up multiple dental flaws like chips, gaps, and discoloration. And while they can give your teeth the appearance of being straighter, they can’t be used for major bite corrections the way that Invisalign or Spark aligners can. For very minor alignment issues, veneers in Castle Rock can be a simple and effective fix.

However, for moderate to advanced bite concerns, such as overbites, underbites, or significant crowding, clear aligner treatment is necessary to safely guide your teeth into proper alignment.

Do Veneers Feel Like Real Teeth?

Absolutely! Porcelain and ceramic materials are chosen specifically for their hard, smooth texture. Once they’re placed, they’ll feel just like natural teeth—though perhaps a bit slicker. Since veneers are designed to fit your mouth perfectly, you won’t feel any bulkiness or strange gaps or angles.

The smooth material also won’t create any sharp edges or irritate your gums, lips, or tongue. For all intents and purposes, your new smile enhancements will be a part of your teeth, allowing your grin to feel completely comfortable and natural.
